3on3 Goderich Spring Hockey Rules

The purpose of 3on3 Goderich is to:

(a) Encourage and foster sportsmanship and fair play among its members
(b) Establish, maintain, and increase an interest in hockey
(c) To provide recreational hockey that all youth can afford
(d) HAVE FUN!

Section One: Governing Play
(a) All CHA rules are in effect unless otherwise stated.
(b) The League has final authority concerning all rules and regulations including, but not limited to, suspensions, expulsions and general discretion of conduct.

Section Two: Teams
(a) only registered players on official team rosters may play league games.
(b) A team shall be composed of minimum nine (9) skaters and one (1) goalie.  MAX 12 skaters and 1 goalie
(c) Each team will play with three (3) players on the ice, plus a goaltender.
(d) A team trailing by 5 or more goals can ice one (1) additional skater until such time that the deficit falls below 5 goals

Section Three: Replacements & Reserves
(a) Teams must use other registered players from existing teams from your division or lower.
(c) Teams can use up to three (3) reserve players in any game; ie. 2 skaters and a goalie.
(c) Replacement players may only be used for emergencies or potential emergencies to meet the minimum, not to fill the benches.
(e) Unregistered players may NOT be used for any reason.

Section Four: Rules of Play
(a) all games will be NON-BODYCHECKING.
(b) All games will be FULL ICE, 50 minutes in total ice time.  This includes a two minute warmup, 42 minute period and 3 (three) shoot out attempts at the end of the game for each team
(c) When play is stopped due to the goalie controlling the puck or a goal was scored, a whistle will signal the attacking players to vacate the zone. Once all the attackers have exited the zone, the players may re-enter to resume play immediately. They may not challenge the opposition until they have all exited the zone. Attacking prematurely may result in a penalty for the offending team.
(d) There is no centre-ice (red) line, and therefore no icing called.
(e) All offside plays at the blueline will be deemed delayed offside and the referee will call for the offending players to release the puck and exit the zone. Once all the offending players have exited the zone together, they may re-enter the offensive zone.


Section Five: Shifts
(a) ALL Player shifts will be one (1) minutes in length. A buzzer will sound to signal the end of each shift.
(b) Once the buzzer sounds, players must relinquish control of the puck immediately and vacate the ice. The new players may enter onto the ice surface immediately.
(c) all players entering the ice surface must skate around their own net, prior to engaging with the puck. (exception is U8)
(d) Failure to immediately relinquish control of the puck at the sound of the buzzer or new players entering the ice surface prematurely may result in a penalty for the offending team.

Section Six: Minor Penalties
(a) all penalties will result in a penalty shot being awarded to the offended team.  The clock will stop and the referee will place the puck at Centre ice for the shooter.  The remaining players on the ice will line up one the far blue line, and on the whistle, will "chase" the puck carrier.
(b) the Penalized player will be removed from the ice for the remainder of the shift, and the penalized team will play short-handed (ex. 3 vs 2). 
(c) Any player having been assessed three (3) minor penalties in the same game will be automatically ejected from that game.
(d) All divisions will be awarded three (3) shoot out attempts at the conclusion of regulation play.
(e) Teams will lose one (1) shoot-out attempt for every penalty accumulated at five (5) or more.  
5 team penalties = 2 shoot out attempts
6 team penalties = 1 shoot out attempts
7+ = 0 shoot out attempts
(f) any coincidental penalties will result in both players leaving the ice surface.  No penalty shots are awarded.  Teams will proceed for the duration of the shift at 2 on 2.
(g) in the event that the penalty is called at or around the shift buzzer, the referee may ask for the next line to take the ice, and proceed with NO 'chase' against the shooter.
(i) double minor, or separate penalties will result in 2 x shooter attempts, with the first attempt having no 'Chasers'.


Section Seven: Major Penalties
(a) Major penalties will result in the immediate ejection of the offending player(s) and suspension pending further review by the League.
(b) Fighting majors will result in suspension pending further review by the League.
(c) Any team with 3 recorded fighting majors, regardless of the player, will be expelled from the league for the remainder of the season.

Section Eight: Coaches, Managers
(a) Up to three (3) coaches, assistants or trainers may be on the benches. All bench personnel must be a minimum 18 years of age or approved by league. (ie: high school students seeking volunteer hours).
(b) Coaches who shorten the bench to gain an advantage over the other team will receive a suspension.
(c) Bench personnel having been ejected from a game, for any reason, will be suspended for the remainder of the season.
(d) INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR, CONDUCT OR LANGUAGE WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!
(e) Referee's decision is final.  No protests, No appeals.

Section Nine: Team default Rule
Any team that does not show, or ice a team for a scheduled game will:
(a) Forfeit that game.
(b) Forfeit their next scheduled game, which will be awarded to the team that showed but had no team to play.
